Mod-U-Com Computer Dispatch / E-911 / Telephone Solution

Mod-U-Com

The UltraCom radio console system is a fully digital radio dispatch communication console. It integrates radio control functions, telephone system audio, external outputs, and alarm inputs into a manageable central control point for the dispatcher. The dispatcher operates the console position with a touch screen monitor or a mouse. The UltraCom console system is based on the Microsoft Window operating system for reliability and performance. All screen organization, appearance, button operations, system levels, and features are fully user configurable. This allows system changes to be made on-site quickly by the customer without lengthy and expensive manufacturer software costs. Changes can be made on any Windows® PC using the exclusive Screenmaker and Customizer programs provided. Extensive on-board and remote diagnostic capabilities provided by the Medic Diagnostic System ensure system functionality and reduce maintenance costs. The system has a maximum capacity of 247 simultaneous sources of audio.

The UltraCom is an expansion of Modular Communication System’s powerful UltraCom Radio Dispatch Console to include administration and E911 telephone operations. The UltraCom system is a fully digital radio/telephone/E911 dispatch communication console. Its primary purpose is to allow a dispatcher to manage the complex array of information and communications present in today’s modern dispatch environment. The UltraCom allows a dispatcher to perform tasks such as communicate with field personnel via radio base stations, answer E911 phone calls, place admin phone calls, monitor alarm status information, and control auxiliary equipment in one seamless user interface. The dispatcher operates a console position by means of a touch screen monitor and/or a mouse. A typical system includes control for several dozen radio base stations, tens of phone lines, and several dispatcher operating positions. It's intended market includes: E911, Police, Fire, Medical, Emergency, and Utility dispatch centers.

The architectural design of the UltraCom console system consists of one Main Electronics Package II (MEP II) shared by a number of individual Operator Positions (OP). The Main Electronic Package II (MEP II) equipment is a fully digital audio and data switch. It acts as the central connection hub of the console system. All Operator Positions, radio control lines, admin telephone lines, E911 trunks, and auxiliary equipment connect to the MEP II. The MEP II is typically located in an equipment room or radio vault close to the base station wiring.

Operator Position
The Operator Position is the interface between the dispatcher and all functions the console system performs. In its most basic form, it provides status information and visual control buttons to the dispatcher. This allows them to control and route audio in order to communicate with telephone callers and field radio units. The Operator Position can also be used to configure the system. Each Operator Position is connected to the MEP II with a 2-pair T1 data link. Direct cable or in-house LAN wiring can be used to remote a position up to 6000 feet from the MEP II. Longer distances can be accommodated via leased T1 lines or microwave links.

User Interface
The user interface is fully customer programmable. All screen layouts, button size, location, colors, labels, functionality, features, and levels are fully programmable by customer maintenance personnel. Features such as Pop-Up Windows and user Macros remove display clutter and automate dispatcher tasks.

And as always, software updates are free for the life of the system. Refer to the UltraCom brochure for more information about system features.
